English
Phonics will continue to be taught daily with a focus on securing all of the sounds necessary to enable us to be fluent readers.
We will be Writing for purpose:
Sequencing sentences to form short narratives.
Maths
We will be securing our place value skills in numbers up to 100. We will be further developing our addition and subtraction skills, including the use of these skills to solve one and two step problems. We will also be looking at multiplication and division; grouping and sharing into groups of 2, 5 and 10. Finally we will investigate the positions of objects and the direction they move in. We will also be learning about time and money.
Science
In Science we will be completing our learning topic about materials by finding out what toys are made from. We will be learning about changes in summer.

Computing
In Computing, we will be learning about managing online information, including how to find information safely and recognise that not everything we see online is reliable. We will also explore copyright and ownership and how to behave responsibly, remembering to be kind, respectful and safe when communicating with others and who to speak to if there is a problem.
History
In History we will be exploring Famous Queens. We will learn what a monarch is and we will explore Tudor life, Queen Elizabeth the I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth the II. We will compare the three Queens, looking at similarities and differences. Later on we will be learning about 'The Gunpowder Plot'
Geography
In Geography, we will be carrying out fieldwork in our school grounds. The children will explore the area around our school, observing and identifying different features, and using simple maps and geographical vocabulary to describe what they found.
During this half term we will be starting to look at the artist 'Augusta Savage' looking at form and sculpture. We will be visiting our local area and completing our very own sculptures using natural materials.
D&T
After half term we will be learning about healthy eating and where healthy foods come from. We will be making our own 'Healthy Sandwich' using different ingredients.
PSHE
We will be learning about our 'Health and Wellbeing' as well as 'Living in the Wider World'.
RE
In RE we will be learning about ‘’Sikhism’ and the things that are important to people who worship the Sikh faith.
French
Music
In Music, we will be dancing and drawing to ‘Nautilus’ over three lessons, exploring movement, rhythm and responding creatively to music. We will also enjoy ‘Cat and Mouse’, developing our listening skills and using movement to represent the different characters and sounds.
The children will also explore rhythm
and beat.
Spelling
In Year 1 children will continue to learn spelling through their developing knowledge of phonics and applying this to their independent writing. Children will also continue to learn to spell the Year 1 common exception words and the national curriculum spellings through their English lessons.
PE
In PE, we develop our athletics skills, including running, jumping and throwing. We will also be enjoying striking and fielding games, developing our skills in rounders, cricket and MLB, while preparing and practising for our upcoming Sports Day.
