Traditional Stories. Our story focus for the first half term is ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’.
Our story focus for the second half term is ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We will be sharing the stories together and talking about the characters, setting and events in the story. We will be learning to retell the story ourselves using story language and have a go at sequencing the stories too. We will be developing our mark making skills and creating our own sensory story maps.
Maths
We will be continuing our mathematical journey by exploring numbers within 5. We will learn to count, subitise and recognise numbers within 5 to develop our understanding of numbers. We will also begin to explore height, length, mass and capacity.
Understanding the World
Linking to our Winter topic, we will be exploring melting and freezing. The children will get chance to see what happens to water when we put it in the freezer and experiment with different ways of melting ice.
Animals and habitats – farm animals and their young
Computing
We will continue to develop our drawing skills by selecting colours and making marks when painting pictures on Purple Mash. We will also begin to use robot toys and use buttons to make them move along the floor.
Understanding the World
We will be looking at photos of when we were babies and comparing them to what we look like now. How have we changed? What can we do now that we couldn’t do then? How do we look after babies? Share photos and talk about our experiences.
Understanding the World
We will be exploring the season of Winter. We will find out what happens in winter and what this looks like, reflecting on our own experiences. We will be talking about what clothes we need for the cold weather and what cold weather looks like around the world.
After half term we will compare this to the season of spring and explore what happens in the Spring season.
Expressive Arts and Design
As part of our Spring topic we will be making 3D flower crowns in the style of Frida Kahlo.
Expressive Arts and Design
We will be doing some cooking this term to link to our stories. We will be making our own porridge together like in the story of the three bears, and also following a recipe to make gingerbread.
