Spring Term

English

This Spring term in English, we will be covering historical fiction, non-fiction, legends and poetry. Our focus texts will be The Stone Age: Hunters, Gatherers and Woolly Mammoths, Dragon Slayer and Sonnet for a Sphere. We will be developing our English skills and learning to write both a non-chronological report, our own myths and legends, and a metaphorical sonnet about school. 

Maths

In maths, we will be taking our focus onto length and perimeter, and fractions. We will be learning how to measure, compare and order lengths in millimetres, centimetres and metres, and compare and order unit fractions in various concrete and abstract ways. The children will continue to secure their times table knowledge, particularly 3s, 4s and 8s. 

Science

In science, our focus turns to plants. We will be exploring what plants need, the parts and functions of different parts of plants, and the various processes of seed dispersal. We will enquire about, predict and investigate how water is transported around the plant, and we will make observations regarding the requirements of a plant for life and growth. As well on the 15th March we will have a Science day- The children will be investigating the topic of ‘Time!  As part of British Science week. 

Computing

In computing, we will be revisiting and developing our coding knowledge by learning about and using different function buttons and selecting them for different purposes. We will be designing and coding our own interactive scenes and debugging any errors. Then, we will be learning how to send emails and understand all of the different features that can be used. 

History

We will revisit and develop our learning about Stone Age to Iron Age by enquiring about and investigating the changes and continuities of Britain through the Bronze and Iron Age. We will understand the purpose of Stonehenge, look at artefacts and their development overtime, and solve a mystery by speculating what happened to the 52 skeletons of Maiden Castle. 

Geography

This term in Geography, we will be learning about the importance of bee conservation. We will explore and understand the role of bees within our world and how critical they are for survival. We will explore ways in which we can support the conservation and work of bees and make attempts to put these ideas into action within the school environment. 

Art

 In Art, we will be exploring the drawing skills of Albrecht Druer and Gariel Rossetti. We will be learning different sketching and drawing techniques such as hatching and cross hatching to replicate the details of skin by drawing our partners’ and our own hands. Not only this, but will explore the impact of light on an object and replicate shadows and highlights through drawing. 

D&T

In DT, we will be making a savoury dish. We will learn about hygiene, the correct use of kitchen utensils, write recipes, taste test foods, and finally make our own savoury dish with ingredients of our own choice. We will then evaluate the taste and appearance of our foods, and even send some home for the family to try! 

PSHE

Our PSHE focuses will be Diverse Britain and Digital Wellbeing. Through these units, we will look at the culturally diverse and unique society of Britain, developing our understanding of British Values and appreciating our unique and special identities. We will also develop our understanding of wellbeing online, through all means of internet access. 

RE

In RE, we will expand our knowledge on Holy Buildings from a variety of religions and faiths found in Britain. We will explore religious traditions, name and describe places of worship, and consider what makes a place sacred or special. Following this, we will learn what a pilgrimage is and why people of certain faiths choose to go on journeys and follow certain traditions. 

French

In our French language learning in the Spring Term, we will be learning how to pronounce the letters within the French alphabet and be able to use this alphabet to write phrases. Then, we will be learning to say, read and write colours in French, and choose the correct masculine or feminine articles for different nouns. 

Music

We will start the Spring Term by learning Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and explore reggae as a genre of music. The children will appraise songs, explore pace and tempo, and have a go at improvising with glockenspiels. Following this, the children will have the opportunity to learn how to play the recorder. 

Spelling

Spellings will continue to be set each Friday on PurpleMash. The children will also have the opportunity to explore and learn their spellings as part of their English lessons, practising and securing each spelling pattern for a weekly assessment. 

PE

In PE, we will develop our social skills and teamwork by engaging in a range of team building and leadership activities. The children will learn how to be creative and adapt within groups, and share ideas through positive communication. Not only this, we will be working on our health and fitness and engage in boot camp activities, then, we will develop our badminton skills. 

Online Safety

In Online Safety, we will be discussing and learning about online reputations. We will be exploring what information is and is not appropriate to share online, and discuss ways in which anyone can develop a positive online reputation. The children will learn about strategies anyone can use in order to protect their digital personalities, their self-image, and identities.
